Bread in a Bag

This is another 4-H recipe. I use this with the Activity Day girls when we make sacrament bread. It turns out great and isn't as messy as regular bread. It yields 2 loves per bag.

3-3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 pkg. Rapid Rise or regular yeast
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 cup very warm water (125-130 degrees)
2 Tbsp. butter, softened
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
cooking spray

Directions:
In a gallon size ziploc bag, mix:
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 pkg yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
Add to the bag:
  • 1 1/2 cups very warm water
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
Close the bag. Knead and work the bag with fingers to blend ingredients.

Add to the bag:
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
Close bag and work dough until flour is well blended.

Add to the bag:
  • 1 cup all purpose flour to make soft dough.
Close bag and work until dough is well blended

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes. Spray dough with cooking spray; cover with bag; let rest 10 minutes. Punch dough down. Divide dough into 2 equal pieces. Roll each into a 11x7 inch rectangle. Roll up tightly from short end; pinch seam and ends to seal. Place seam side down in two loaf pans coated with cooking spray. Coer; let rise in warm darft-free place until doubled in size, about 1 hour. Bake at 375 for 25-30 minutes or until done.
